Darlene Elaine (Eaton) Shields, 61, passed away Monday, June 24, 2013 at her residence with her loving family by her side. She was the wife of Patrick Shields to whom she shared 21 wonderful years of marriage together.
Mrs. Shields was born on April 1, 1952 in York, PA, a daughter of the late Kenneth and Norma (McLaughlin) Eaton. She was a former employee with TRS-SESCO, Kernersville.
She was a member of Hickory Grove United Methodist Church where she sang in the church choir and was the former church organist.
Darlene was an avid runner, competing in several half marathons, one as recent as last November. But her favorite thing to do was spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Shields is survived by a daughter, Stacey Stripling and her husband, Mark of Stokesdale; five grandchildren, Steven Stripling, Samantha Stripling, Michael Stripling, Brittany Stripling, and Kristina Webster and her husband, Ricky; a sister, Diane Scott and her husband, Bill of Coatesville, PA; a nephew, Matt Scott and his wife, Kathy of Downingtown, PA; and two great nephews, Cameron and Collin Scott.
A celebration of life service will be Thursday, June 27, 2013 at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church, 5959 Hickory Grove Road, Greensboro with the Rev. Lauren Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Cumby Family Funeral Service, 1015 Eastchester Drive, High Point.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation, P.O. Box 1848, Longmont, CO 80502.
