Virginia M. Zaworski, née Cernick, age 78, passed away on Monday, August 13, 2012, having set an amazing example for all for the last seventeen years as a three-time cancer survivor.

Virginia carried on a 56-year love affair with her husband Mitchell Zaworski; her children thank their aunt, Betty Zaworski Juricic, for setting up the blind date that introduced their mother and father in 1955.

Having worked at Caterpillar in Joliet before her marriage, Virginia opted for the classic housewife role while her children were pre-school age, then returned to the workforce in the 1960s as a very cool Avon lady, in the 1970s on staff at Joliet's Manpower office, and in the 1980s as a cashier at GMAC. She retired in 1994. A natural athlete when young, she was a terrific swimmer and dancer. Virginia was also an accomplished seamstress. She made clothes large and small, from dolls to daughters. She was an avid recipe collector, whose great pleasure in life was to cook a good meal for her family - especially if the meat was on sale.

Virginia is survived by her loving husband, Mitchell; children, Karen (Patrick Byrne) Zaworski, Linda (Jim) Jurczyk, Mike (Mary Fran née Zola) Zaworski, and Dave (Carina Edling) Zaworski; grandchildren, Ellie and Malte; and nieces, Sharon Umek and Debbie Savory.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Nick and Jennie Cernick (née Colarich); sister, Genevieve Kouchoukos; and nephew, Christopher Kouchoukos.

Services Saturday, August 18, 2012, with family and friends meeting for a memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Church in Minooka.

Family will welcome all beginning at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. Interment private. There will not be any services at Tezak's Funeral Home.
