Early on Monday, June 24, 2013, God called his beloved daughter, Carrie Louise Fleming Hayes home to begin her eternal journey into Heaven. She was born January 14, 1930, to the late Lagrant and Carrie Etta Reddick Fleming. "Louise", as she was lovingly called, was educated in the Roanoke City Schools. She accepted Christ at an early age where she joined Hill Street Baptist Church under the pastorate of the Rev. D. R. Powell. She united in Holy Matrimony to Ronald L. Hayes and with this union they had seven children.
She was an active faithful and dedicated member of Hill Street Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Pastor's Aide, Senior Choir, and Hospitality Ministry. She retired from Hotel Roanoke after many years of service. She was a member of the Most Worshipful Saint John Grand Lodge, and became a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Star of Bethlehem #25, Heroines of Jericho.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald L. Hayes; brother, Samuel Grant Fleming; sisters, Hattie M. Brown, Annie J. Brown and Virginia Marshall.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Kenneth Hayes, of Roanoke, Ronald (Hilda) Hayes, of Lynchburg, Lura (Johnnie) Barnhill, of Roanoke, Wanda (Dan) Holland, of Kennesaw, Ga., James (Danise) Hayes, Ralph Hayes, both of Roanoke, and Reginald (Sebrina) Hayes, of Greensboro, N.C.; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2013, at Hill Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Johnny R. Stone officiating and the Rev. Frank Brown, Eulogist. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Williams Memorial Park. Friends may call on Friday afternoon June 28, 2013, for viewing at Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home. Arrangements by Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home, Roanoke.
