Henry Page, Was born July 24, 1916 to Dave and Fannie Page in Atlanta, Georgia. He was their only child. The family moved to Gary early in his life. Henry graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1934. He received a sports scholarship to Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia and was a four letterman there. He left an impression on the basketball team being called "Ram Page." He graduated Morehouse in 1938, he was also a member of the Omega Fraternity. He married his sweetheart, Emmie Murray on May 14, 1939. Janice Gill (Jan) and Patricia McCray (Pat) were the children of Emmie and Henry. He was also the grandfather and surrogate father to his grandson, Jon Dishmon. Henry worked at U.S. Steel in Gary. Upon retiring, he worked as a Greeter at Ultra Food Store in Merrillville. Henry was preceded in death by his parents and wife Emmie in 2010 and daughter Pat in 2011. He never met a stranger and was known by his big, distinctive voice. Henry was a loyal member of Christ Baptist Church in Gary where he served on the Usher Board and also worked as a Greeter. The church thought so much of him that he was presented a plaque on Sunday, June 9, 2013 naming him the father of the year. Henry exchanged time for eternity on June 21, 2013. He is survived by his daughter, Janice; grandson, Jon, and family friend, Paul. He has a devoted niece in Maryland, Norma Jackson and a devoted nephew in Arkansas, Emerson Goodwin. Visitation Friday, June 28, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with funeral services immediately following at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Baptist Church, 4700 E. 7th Ave. Rev. Lawrence Robertson officiating. Interment at Fern Oaks Cemetery. Special thanks to Lincolnshire Health Center in Merrillville for the loving care provided to him. Also special thanks to Deacon Samuel Coleman of Christ Baptist Church and Deacon George Johnson of Christ Baptist Church who my father referred to as "Super Star." Taking a line from a song, my father can really say, "I did it my way."
