Carl Wayne Ratliff, 74 years old of Houston Texas, died on February 19th, 2013
following a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Born February 10th, 1939 he is the son of Ruth Olive Ratliff and Cecil Brook Ratliff. Following his 2 year service in the Army, he attended the University of Houston. Wayne started his civilian career as a Licensed Mortician becoming a Funeral Director in Fort Worth. He later joined Kirby Lumber where he rose to Assistant to the President . Upon Santa Fe R.R. sale of Kirby, he joined Santa Fe Energy Corp in the Purchasing Dept. and later was promoted to Risk Manager where he was responsible for the Corporations Property and Casualty Insurance Programs. In this position Wayne traveled internationally and developed solid business relationships with World Wide Insurance Markets including Lloyds of London, Argentina and Indonesia Underwriters. In the Mid 1990s Wayne spent 2 years in China with Santa Fe Energy in an administrative support role. Upon returning to the U.S., Wayne was employed by SFER's Successor Devon Energy until his retirement in 2001.

Carl wanted to give back to the community; he was chosen as a member of the Harris Grand Jury Pool and served on numerous cases for the county. He also gave to several charities on a regular basis. He is survived by the wonderful friends in his life, Oliver Fontenot, Greg Hartley, Susan Turner, Mark Fontenot, Kitty Valdetero, Colleen Mikel, Tom Wheatley, Byron Glasscock, Steve Mulliken, Robert Arellano, and of course his beloved horse Sam. In the consistent manor in which he conducted himself, Wayne touched the hearts of countless people in business and serving on the Grand Jury. We all will miss his presence, support, and guidance. In him we all felt compelled to "do things the right way".
