"Walter Avery.
CLAYVILLE. Oct. 15.—(Special.)— Walter Avery, who has been nearly a life-long resident of this village, but who has been in ill health for the past two months, and was taken to St. Luke's hospital a few days ago, died there today. Mr. Avery was born in Utlca, and, after residing there for a short time, removed to this village. In 1837 or thereabouts, Mr. Avery went to New York, and for about three-years hold the position as clerk in a commission house, which was under the management of Judson Avery & Co. In 1860 he went to Buffalo to attend to that end of the commission business, which was also under the same firm. In 1870 Mr. Avery returned to Utica and resided at the Butterfleld for about four years. Since that time he has been a resident of this village, and has resided at the old homestead, which is on the main road at the north end of the village. He was highly respected by all who knew him. He was also an ardent fly fisherman. He is survived by one brother. K. B. Avery of this village, and one sister, Mrs. C. F.
Cooper of Syracuse."
