James S. Burrous, 92 years old, former prominent Jasper county farmer, died March 20 in Canon City, Colo., which had been his home for 24 years.
Mr. Burrous was born at Hannibal, Mo. He came to Jasper county as a young man and was married here to Ulyssie Esther Shallenberger, October 16, 1889. The Burrous home was 3 1/2 miles northwest of Carthage. Highway 96 route cuts through part of the old Burrous farm. Mr. Burrous was a Jersey breeder and extensive grower of strawberries.
The family moved to Canon City in 1933 and Mrs. Burrous died there August 26, 1944.
Two sons, John James Burrous and Merit K. Burrous, survive.
Funeral service and burial was at Canon City.
