Watson left from Yarmouth, Nova Scotia and arrived in Boston, Massachusetts on 15 July 1850, on the Schooner Eagle. He was listed as a shoemaker.

According to the US, Civil War Soldier Records and Profiles, 1861-1865, Watson enlisted on 4 August 1862, as a Private in Massachusetts. He enlisted in Company G, Massachusetts 35th Infantry Regiment on 17 August 1862. Mustered out on 13 October 1862 at Keedysville, Maryland.

According to the US, Registers of Deaths of Volunteers, 1861-1865, Watson enlisted as a Private in Massachusetts. He was in Company G, 35th Infantry. He was killed at Ocust Spring, Maryland.

He died from wounds received at the Battle of Antietam. According to historynet.com, "the Battle of Antietam, a.k.a. Battle of Sharpsburg, resulted in not only the bloodiest day of the American Civil War, but the bloodiest single day in all of American history. Fought primarily on September 17, 1862, between the town of Sharpsburg, Maryland, and Antietam Creek, it ended Gen. Robert E. Lee’s first invasion of a northern state."

Please Note: The following record dated 7 May 1857 in Danvers, Massachusetts, is listed in the Massachusetts, Marriage Records, 1840-1915: William S Williams, bootmaker, age 27, from Nova Scotia, son of Wm C. and Ruth, who married Eliza K. Crowel, age 19, from Nova Scotia, daughter of Peter R and Catherin. I'm not sure that this record really belongs to Watson, since the name written on the record is clearly William, but since many people have this marriage linked to Watson on Ancestry.com, I thought I would mention it...
