Actor, Screenwriter. Born Edgeworth Blair Reid in New York City, his father was a banker, his mother was an accomplished artist, he initiated his career as a performer on the radio series "The March of Time" when he was fifteen years old. During his time with the program, Reid met Orson Welles whom invited him to become a player with his Mercury Theater ensemble. This led to his Broadway debut in the Welles' production of Julius Caesar (1937). He launched his lengthy career in Hollywood with the motion picture "The Ramparts We Watch" (1940) and would appear in such films as "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" (1953), "Inherit the Wind" (1960), "The Absentminded Professor" (1961) and "Son of Flubber" (1963). Among his many television credits include "The Lucy Show", "The Wild, Wild West" and "All in the Family". Additionally, Reid penned scripts for the TV series "The Love Boat", "Lou Grant" and "After M*A*S*H".
