Founder of the Sandy Pond Ice Company, one of the first ice companies on Cape Cod. He also founded the West Barnstable Brick Company. He went to California in 1849 and left in 1852. His brother Alanson died there in 1855.

Married to Caroline P. Pulsifer, of Ellsworth, Maine on Sept. 13, 1855.
