The son of Gary Vance Burkhart and Paulette Henson Burkhart, Mr. Burkhart was born April 15, 1972, in Lubbock, Texas. He passed away Friday, June 21, near Campground #1 at Waurika Lake.
A graduate of Roosevelt High School in Lubbock, Gary had been a resident of Waurika since 1997. He was employed as a truck driver. His hobbies included playing golf, boating, going to flea markets and rebuilding/restoring antique cars.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, George Van Burkhart; grandparents, Winford and Fannie Pearl Henson; and aunts, Elizabeth Cooke and Carolyn Dewbre.
Survivors include his wife, Tammy Price of the home in Waurika; father, Gary Vance Burkhart of Marietta; mother, Paulette Burkhart of Lubbock; grandmother, Anna Lee Burkhart of Marietta; sister and brother-in-law, Gina Rena and Jeffrey Cowen and their son, Jackson of Abilene, Texas; stepdaughter, Christy Sewell of Ryan, Okla.; stepgrandson, Ethan Sewell; aunts, Vanda Harvey and Sue Berry of Allen, Texas, and Tamara Chatman and husband, Alton of Vernon, Texas; uncles, John Burkhart and wife, Susan of Kemp, Texas, and Rick Burkhart of Marietta; and numerous cousins.
Casket bearers will be Merrick Burkhart, Jeff Burkhart, Jeff Harvey, Joe Sewell, Mike Wilkerson and Mike Wilkerson Jr. Honorary bearers are Dennison Foster and Sam Baurm.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.
WAURIKA MAN DROWNS IN WAURIKA LAKE
Waurika, Okla. (AP) ~ The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says a Waurika man has drowned in Waurika Lake after jumping from a boat to swim.
The patrol says 41-year-old Gary Vance Burkhart II drowned Friday after jumping from the boat with his wife in the southwestern Oklahoma lake.
Troopers say Burkhart called for help while swimming in rough waters and his wife swam to get a life jacket. Burkhart had disappeared under the water by the time his wife returned.
