She was born on October 16, 1918 at Mondovi, WI to her parents Joseph and Julia (Halberg) Aase. Betty graduated from Mondovi High School. On September 8, 1940 she was united in marriage to Waldo Freitag at Mondovi, WI. Betty worked for Production Credit and as a secretary for her husband at Freitag Farm Service and the Bank of New Glarus as a loan officer until her retirement. She was also a farmer's wife and homemaker.
Betty was an active member of the Swiss United Church of Christ serving on search committees and compiling the Spire. She was very involved with the Wilhelm Tell play production playing the role of Gertrude Stauffacher opposite her husband along with directing and costuming for many years. Betty was also a past Worthy Matron for the New Glarus Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Betty is survived by her son John (Joy) Freitag of New Glarus, WI and her daughter Mary Jo (Frank) Kilpatrick of Fitchburg, WI, grandchildren Robert (Andrea) Kilpatrick of Las Vegas, NV, Joseph Freitag of New Glarus, WI, John (Kathleen) Kilpatrick of Brooklyn, NY, and Sarah (Daniel) Mazur of Denver, CO, and two great-grandchildren Marley and Esmé Kilpatrick.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Waldo, sisters Margaret Weishapple, Wilma Prince, and Neva Nelson, brothers Odin "Pat" Aase and William Aase.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 24, 2013 at the Swiss United Church of Christ, 18 Fifth Ave., New Glarus, WI with the Rev. Craig Jan-McMahon officiating with burial in the Swiss Church Cemetery, New Glarus, WI.
Relatives and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 23, 2013 at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 Sixth Ave., New Glarus, WI.
