James Hoyt Plunkett, 86 of the New Harmony community in Arab died Friday, June 21, 2013, in Marshall Medical Center North emergency room.

Mr. Plunkett was born Jan. 10, 1927, in Cullman County, the son of Grover T. and Laura Elizabeth Noles Plunkett. He was a graduate of Fairview High School, Class of 1945, and served his country during World War II in the United States Army. He was a charter member of the Cullman County Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, a lifetime resident of the New Harmony community and a devoted member of the New Harmony Baptist Church. He and the former Faye Easterwood were married 66 years.

He was a past board member and past president of Cullman Cattlemen's Association, past president of Cullman Poultry and Egg Association, past president of Alabama State Board of Directors, past president of the Board of Directors of Cullman County Farmers Federation and past president of the Fairview Alumni Association.

He is survived by his wife, Faye Plunkett of Arab; two sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph "Joe" and Libette Plunkett of Atlanta and Tim and Sara Plunkett of Arab; five grandchildren and their spouses, Maggie Plunkett, Kristen Plunkett, Bradley Plunkett, Levi Plunkett (Nicki) and Isaac Plunkett (Amanda); several nieces, nephews, other family members, church family and many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Grover T. and Laura E. Plunkett; six brothers, Alvie, Lester, Vester, Dorsey, Herman and Doc Plunkett; and by two sisters, Nora Mae Williams and Cora Nell Plunkett.

Funeral Service were 2 p.m. Monday, June 24, 2013, at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, Brother Tim Pinkard, officiating. Burial will be in Arab Memorial Cemetery, Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, directing.

Pallbearers were Bradley Plunkett, Eugene Plunkett, Grover Plunkett, Isaac Plunkett, Levi Plunkett and Cory Williams.

Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 23, at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial donations to the Fairview Alumni Scholarship Fund in his memory, P.O. Box 1251, Cullman, AL 35056.
