Austrian Royalty. Bavarian Princess and Archduchess of Austria. She was the daughter of King Maximilian I Joseph and his second wife, Caroline von Baden, and twin sister of Maria Leopoldina. In 1824 she married the Archduke Franz Karl of Austria in Vienna and came to the court of her half-sister the fourth wife of Emperor Franz I. (II.). She gave birth to five children, Franz Joseph, Maximilian, Karl Ludwig, father of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, Ludwig Viktor and Marie Anna. After her husband renounced his right for succession, her son became Emperor. During the early years of his reign she had great political influence.
