John William Cockrell, 56, general building contractor, died at 1:30 a.m. Thursday at his home, 701 North Sixth street. Born January 8, 1886, on McCarty Lane, east of the city, he spent his life in this community. He belonged to the Progressive Spiritualist church and was vice-president of the organization. He also belonged to the Woodmen's lodge. Survivors are a daughter, Mill Luella V. Cockrell, living at home; and two sisters and a brother, Mrs. Pearl Lucas, Chicago, Mrs, Laura Farner, Wabash, and Alvin Cockrell, LaPorte. Services at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Rogers and Henderson funeral home, Rev. Tannie Solomon officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Friday.
