He and Sara were married June 29, 1943 in Athens, Georgia and have enjoyed 70 wonderful loving years together!
He served his country during WWII with the Army in the Middle East and in Europe. After the war, he was Vice President of the 334th Engineers Group of men who served together during the war. They held annual reunions in many cities in the US.
He graduated in 1949 for the University of Georgia with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Gerald was a member of First Methodist Church in West Memphis, Arkansas, the John Mack Smith Sunday School class, Meadowbrook Country Club and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is surved by his beloved wife, Sarah; his sister, Rumelle McCurley and nephew, Ed McCurley of Athens, Georgia; his niece, Gwynne Simmons and her husband, Ted of Capistrano Beach, California; great nephews, Aaron Simmons of Capistrano Beach, California, Shawn Simmons and his wife, Shannon of San Clemente, California; sister in law, Miriam Allen of Warner Robbins, Georgia; nephews, Michael Allen and his wife, Kay of Gainesville, Georgia and Keith and his wife Edie of Warner Robbins, Georgia; great nieces, Bethany, Hilary and Brittany; and great nephew, Zachary.
The Graveside service will be held at 11 AM Saturday at Evergreen Memorial Park in Athens, Georgia with the Reverend Luther Fouche officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Gerald's memory to the First Methodist Church and the John Mack Smith Sunday School Class of West Memphis, Arkansas.
