Paul W. Swearingen, 63, 3706 Post Road, died Friday in Ball Memorial Hospital after a long illness. He was born in Muncie, was graduated from Central High School, served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and spent most of his life in this area.

Mr. Swearingen worked for 10 years at Chrysler Corp., New Castle, before retiring in 1985. He had also worked for 31 years at Owens-Illinois. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.

Surviving are his wife, Evelyn; two sons, Rodney Swearingen, Jeffersonville, and Mark Swearingen, Fort Wayne; three daughters, Rene Jones, St. Petersburg, Fla., Rhonda Abbott, Toronto, Canada, and Tami Hubert, St. Petersburg, Fla.; four sisters, Velma Gates, Betty Miller, Patty Swearingen, and Phyllis Davis, all of Muncie; three brothers, John G., Rex, and Phillip Swearingen, all of Muncie; five grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. A sister, Vera McClure, died in 1985.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday in Grace Lutheran Church, with Charles Piazza officiating. Burial will be in Elm Ridge Cemetery. Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Meeks Mortuary of 30 minutes before services Monday in the church. Memorials may be directed to the Lutheran Hour or the Lutheran Layman League, in care of Grace Lutheran Church, 610 N. Reserve St.
