Von E. Ratcliff, 91, of Shallowater died June 24, 2013 in Lubbock.

Graveside service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, June 27, 2013 in the Fairlawn Cemetery in Amherst. Burial will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery in Amherst.

Von was born November 8, 1921 to Louis S. and Elizabeth A. Ratliff. After his father passed away when he was 2 years old the family moved to Texas, where the family lived in Trenton and Denison.

Von served in the United States Army from 1943-1945 and 1946-1962 when he retired from active military service. After retirement, he moved to Reno, Nevada and worked for the V. A. Hospital for another 17 years. After retiring from the V. A. He moved to Amherst in 1985. After marrying his wife, Margaret July 1, 1990, Von moved to Shallowater where he lived the rest of his life.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Ratcliff of Shallowater; his daughters, Joyce Nolan of Freemont, California, and Edith Mayfield and husband Mike of Monument, Colorado and son, Floyd Rucks of Corsicana, Texas, Wilma Donohue of Denison, Texas, Ruth Taylor of Lenord, Texas, and Doris Ratcliff of Georgia; 5 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

His stepchildren include Ruth Roberson of Perryton, Texas, Charles and Richard Hamilton of Allen, Texas, David Hamilton of Duncanville, Texas, Robert Hamilton of Shallowater, Texas, and Ray Hamilton of Lubbock, Texas.
