In July 1948, he joined the United States Air Force, serving his country for the next 21 years in the Communication field. Some of the Squadrons he served with were:

During his Air Force career, he earned his G.E.D., received medals for Occupation in Japan and Korea, National Service, Good Conduct, Outstanding Unit, and the Air Force Longevity as well as numerous awards and commendations. He travelled the globe from the Far East to the Middle East, from the United States to Europe. It was during his tour in France, that he met the love of his life and blushing bride of 53 years. James retired from the Air Force in November, 1969.
Upon his retirement, he moved his family to Las Vegas, NV, where he lived for the next 43 years. Valuing higher education, in 1978 he received his Associates degree in electronics and worked for numerous Las Vegas companies repair calculators, typewriters, photocopier machines, and slot machines. He officially retired from the work force in 1997. He spent his "golden years" working on his great passion, movies. His collection of VHS tapes and then DVD's had grown to over 1,400 titles.
He is survived by his wife, Huguette; daughter Linda (Stephen Edwards) of California; grandson Daniel of California; sister Madelyn "Suzi" Scott of Arizona; nieces Pamela (Rick Balboa) of California, Suzanne of California and Ingred (Rick Frieders) of Indiana; Grand-nephews Daniel, Adam, Andrew, Grand-niece Alexandria; Great-grand niece Lilly-Rose. He is preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Rose.
