Accidental Discharge of Gun Kills Boy, 13 (photo) Harvey Duchow of Collins Is Victim; No Inquest Is Planned.
Harvey Duchow, 13-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Duchow, two miles southwest of Collins, was instantly killed at 10:30 Sunday morning when he was shot through the head by a rifle which accidentally discharged.

The rifle, which had jammed, was held by his brother, Adolph, __, and a cousin, Harold Duchow. With his brothers and cousin, Harvey had been target shooting. They had tried three types of cartridges in the rifle and the gun jammed. As they were trying to force the gun to eject the empty cartridges Harvey stepped in front of the muzzle. The gun discharged and the bullet penetrated his forehead. He died instantly.

No Inquest.

Dr. Gerald Rau, county coroner, said that there will be no inquest. Rau, District Attorney Patrick Dewane and Sheriff Norman Berkedal investigated the accident.

Harvey's parents were a short distance away, husking corn, when the boy was killed.

The body was removed to the ___(line not readable)__ tion's funeral home at Reedsville where it may be viewed until Wednesday afternoon at 1:15 o'clock when a short funeral service will be held there.

Services will be at 2 o'clock at the St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran church near Collins. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

Harvey was born Feb. 9, 1927, near Collins. He finished at the Woodcock rural school last spring.

Immediate survivors are his parents and four brothers, (private).
