Helen (Morris) Smith passed away Thursday July 12, 2012 in Katy, Texas at the age of 88.
Helen was born February 29, 1924 to Leo and Anna (Krnavek) Netek in Nueces County on the family farm near what is now Weber Rd. and Saratoga Blvd. She and her eleven siblings grew up as members of the original Czech farming community that settled in southern Nueces County after the turn of the century.
Helen was a member of the KJZT, Moravian Club of Nueces County, Czech Heritage Society and St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Violet, Texas. She raised four children with her first husband Victor H. Morris.
She is preceded in death by her parents Leo, Mary & Anna (Svatek) Netek: husbands Victor ("Speck") Morris and Oscar ("Bud") Smith: brothers Frank, Victor, Rudolph, Dominic & Emil and sisters Mary Klepac, Lydia Kosarek, & Johanna (Janie) Polasek.
She is survived by her four children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren; sisters, Geneva (Nemec) Strmiska, Christine Black and Francis Hartigan; sisters-in-law Joy Lee Wostal & Marion Hedgepeth. Helen is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
