Indian Mutiny Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in Dublin, Ireland, he served as a Lieutenant in the Bengal Establishment, British Army. On May 11, 1857 at Delhi, India, Lieutenant Forrest was one of nine men who defended the ammunition storehouse for more than five hours against large numbers of mutineers. When the wall was being scaled hope of outside help was gone, they blew up the ammunition, killing many of the mutineers. Of the defenders, five died in the explosion while Lieutenant Forrest and the others survived. For gallantry in the face of the enemy, he was awarded the Victoria Cross and promoted Captain. He later died in actions at Dehra Dun, India, on November 3, 1859.
