Walpole, N.H.-- One of New Hampshire's oldest residents who spend his youth helping to build early railroads in the West, died here Monday night {Oct. 11, 1954] at the age of 104, The centenarian was William Grayson Shippee of West Chesterfield, a a patient in Homestead Nursing Home the past four year's was a native of Newport, Vt.,formerly of Brattleboro, Vt., born July 7, 1850. After returning from his pioneer work in the West, Mr. Shippee lived at Lake Memphremagog in his native town and later moved to Brattleboro. He had been a risident of West Chesterfield since 1924. Mr. Shippee Engaged in farming until his retirement a number of years ago. He was married in 1894 to Ella Johnson, who died in 1920. Surviving are five sons and two daughters, Raymond of Wilmington, Vt. Clarence of West Chesterfield, Wayne of Shelburne Falls, Mass. James of Vernon, Vt., Willace of Troy, N.Y., Mrs. Muriel Shippee of Freemont [Sic}, Nebr., and Mrs. Mary Thompson of Long Island, N.Y. He also leaves 14 grandchildren and 10 great- grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday morning {Oct. 14, 1954] at 9 o'clock in St. Michael's Catholic Church, Brattleeboro, with burial there in St. Michael's Cemetery.
Until the hour of the funeral frends may call at O'Connor's Funeral Home, Hinsdale. Friends are asked to omit flowers.
