IN REMEMBRANCE JOHN H. AMES
John was born in Davenport, Iowa on April 24, 1925 and passed away in Riverside, California on June 15, 2013. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Thelma Ames; 3 children Pat, John D, and Bill; and his granddaughter Catlin Ames.
John served as an Ensign in the Navy during WWII. He received his Doctorate's Degree from UCLA and taught for many years, retiring from CSULB as a professor. He also volunteered his time at hospitals for the last 25 years, most recently at Menifee Valley Medical Center for 21 years. John loved music. In addition to singing in his church choir, John played in a symphony orchestra and was a first-chair violinist. He also enjoyed golfing. John was first and foremost a dedicated family-man and will be greatly missed. His family and friends will always remember his sense of humor and personable spirit.
A graveside service for military honors will be held on Tuesday, 6/25 at 10:30 a.m. at Riverside National Cemetery. A celebration of John's life will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on Saturday, 7/13 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be sent to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Menifee, CA in his name.
