Agnes Hydrick Bonnette -- Orangeburg

Agnes Hydrick Bonnette of Orangeburg died on Friday, June 21, 2013.

She was born in the Trinity community near North on Feb. 8, 1919, to John Brown and Daisy Crim Hydrick. She spent her childhood years in North and was valedictorian of her graduating class at North High School. She attended Columbia College and graduated from Columbia Business School. Mrs. Bonnette lived in the Bolentown-Pine Hill area for 70 years following her marriage to John H. Bonnette Sr. As well as keeping books for the family farm, she was a bookkeeper for several businesses in Orangeburg County. She was very active in the community, serving as Cub Scout Den Mother, PTA president, grade mother, leader of the 4-H club and a member of FCLA. She was involved in many other civic and community organizations promoting education, history and music, always including the involvement of children and youth. At Pine Hill United Methodist Church, she was a Sunday school teacher, youth leader, pianist, choir director, UMW president, Lay Speaker and held various other offices. She frequently planned and directed programs in her church and community that were enjoyed by all.

Her recent hobbies included reading, playing the piano, and working crossword puzzles (in ink!). She enjoyed having her family near her and took great pleasure watching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in sports. She especially enjoyed baseball and softball and always recorded the statistics of the game in her scorebook. Her all-time favorite baseball player was Chipper Jones, and Clemson Tiger football game days found her garbed in orange from head to toe.

Mrs. Bonnette was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Stanley (Foots) Hydrick; her husband of 54 years, John H. Bonnette Sr.; their daughter, Jeanne Bonnette Wilson; and son-in-law, Robert L. Smoak. She leaves a legacy to family and friends of an unwavering faith and trust in God and her Savior.

Mrs. Bonnette will be missed by her children, Johnny and Deborah Bonnette, Bonnie and Melton Livingston, and Debbie Smoak; her grandchildren, Mike (Amy) Bonnette, Matt (Fran) Bonnette, Jay (Brandi) Livingston, Alissa (Chris) Furtick, Tate (Andi) Jameson, Tara (Greg) Livingston, Jeanna (Billy) Reynolds and David (Julianna) Smoak; 18 great-grandchildren; and her caregiver and special friend, Marie Irick.

A celebration of her life will be held at 5 p.m. on Monday, June 24, at Pine Hill United Methodist Church; 4002 Neeses Highway, Orangeburg, followed by a time of fellowship, with the Rev. Brandon Fulmer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Mike Bonnette, Jay Livingston, Tate Jameson, Matt Bonnette, Chris Furtick, Greg Livingston, Billy Reynolds and David Smoak.
