WELL KNOWN ARCOLA CITIZEN IS DEAD

Arcola, Ill., November 28. — Andrew J. Monroe, a well known citizen of this city died Saturday morning at 11 o'clock. He was aged 77 years.

Deceased was born Shelby county, Indiana, April 11, 1828, and there grew to young manhood. In 1850 he was married to Miss Julia A. Huffman and they resided there for six years. Two children were born to the union, N. S. Monroe, who now resides at Arthur, and Mrs. Amanda J. Moore, residing at Quinemo, Kan. In 1856 they removed to Richland county, Illinois, and after remaining there for a number of years removed to a farm eight miles southwest of this city, where a few years later Mrs. Monroe died. In 1868 he was married to Miss Mary E. Kitchen, who still survives him. One child survives this union, Mary E. Monroe. In 1897 he moved with his family to this city, where he has since continued to reside. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church of this city and was also a member of the official board of that church.

Funeral services were conducted from the family residence at 2:30 o'clock Monday afternoon, Rev. E. M. Smith officiating. Interment was in the Arcola cemetery.
