Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of Marjorie Phillips Nettles and the late Logan Lang Phillips.
She is survived by her husband, Howard "Tappy" McEwen; her son, Travis and his wife, Francine, of Coral Springs, Fla., and their children, Luke, Alec and Julia; and her daughter, Kimberly Gravely and her husband, John, of Atlanta, and their children, Ethan and Taylor. Surviving also are her sister, Carol and her husband, Larry Kirven, of Sumter and nephews, David and Chris Alderman; her sister, Ginger Nasipak of Delray Beach, Fla., and nephews, Mark and Philip Clavier and their families. Surviving nephew, George B. "Chip" McEwen, and niece, Laura McEwen Fogarty, live with their families in Ft. Meyers and Orchard Park, Fla., respectively.
She was a graduate of Sumter High School and Limestone College. She was a former member and sustaining member of Junior League as well as a member of Colonial Dames. She loved competing in sports and, in her youth, she was a South Carolina state diving champion. She loved animals of any kind and was an advocate for their humane treatment.
A lifelong Episcopalian, she was a member of Christ Church, Greenville. She loved golf, her friends, her church, her family and her Lord.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Church of the Holy Comforter, Sumter.
