Donald M. Hatlevig, 64, was taken suddenly due to complications after a motorcycle accident.

He was born on July 4, 1947, in Lanesboro, Minn., to Myrtle Hatlevig (Holtegaard) and the late Clair Hatlevig.

Don attended the one room school house at North Prairie and graduated from Peterson High School. He graduated from Waldorf College in 1967 and from Wartburg College in 1969 with a BA degree in biology.

On June 8, 1968, he married his high school sweetheart, Barb Johns at the North Prairie Church. They were blessed with three beautiful children.

He dedicated his entire career of 42 years to Watkins Inc., where he worked as a quality control supervisor.

Don is survived by his loving wife of 43 years and the love of his life, Barb; mother, Myrtle; son, Jeremy (Kelsie) Hatlevig of Nicollet; daughters, Heidi (Gary) Thiele of Winona and Amy (Mike) Moger of Albertville; grandchildren, Dylan, Jackson and Cameron Hatlevig, Casey and Abby Thiele and Bennett and Maliha Moger; brothers, Dick (Pat) Hatlevig, Tom Hatlevig and Bob (Helen) Hatlevig; sisters, Marlys Hatlevig (Pete), Robin (Adrain) Toy and Cheryl Hatlevig; and many other treasured nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and special friends and family members. He is preceded in death by his father, Clair; three brothers, and in-laws, Jake and Alma Johns.

He spent his life helping others and serving in his church in countless ways.

Some of the many ways he served at church throughout the years include: teaching Sunday school, being the lead usher and working as the props manager for many Christmas musicals. He was closely involved with the Winona Christian School during its years of existence, including service as a school board member.

His seven grandchildren were one of the greatest joys of his life — his pride and joy! Even in his most difficult days in the hospital, these beautiful children brought smiles to his face and joy to his heart. He loved getting down on the floor playing with them, pulling out exciting toys for them, and teaching them all there is to know in life.

When he was not with his grandchildren, he was spending time with his wife Barb, working on the family farm, fixing broken things, going camping or playing with his John Deere tractors — big and small!

Don touched countless lives over the years, and he will be missed beyond explanation.
