William was born near Barnsboro, Gloucester Co., NJ, the son of Josiah Beckett (Bockitt) and Sophia Bee. He married Sarah Iszard on 29 Jan. 1807 in Gloucester Co., NJ; the marriage record gives his surname as "Boqua." He was a farmer, and served in the War of 1812. He lived near Blackwoodtown and was a Methodist. He reportedly died near Barnsboro, however.
