Mary Jean Parmer, 75, died Friday, March 29, 2002, at a local medical center. Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Beltway Park Baptist Church, with David McQueen officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park.

Ms. Parmer was born November 24,1926 in Pryor, Oklahoma to the late A. Lee Battenfield and Bessie Leora Overton Battenfield. She moved to Abilene 15 years ago from Chicago. Ms. Parmer was a homemaker and an artist; a member and Chairman of the Rules committee of the Key City Women's Golf Association; a member of West Texas Ladies Golf Association; and a member of the West Texas Ladies Bowling Association. She held the title of Abilene City Ladies Golf Champion in 1996. As an artist, she made sports related bronze sculptures, having a sculpture on permanent display at the N.F.L. Football Hall of Fame. Ms. Parmer was a Baptist.

Survivors include her husband, Jim Parmer of Abilene; a son, Rick Parmer of Abilene; two daughters, Sandi Holub and husband, E.J. of Midland, Texas and Jaime Quest and husband, Ronnie, of Lubbock, Texas; six grandchildren, Jeff and wife, Rachel Ireland, Shannon Ireland of Dallas; Rafe Quest, Rachel Quest of Lubbock; Jessi Parmer, Erin Parmer of Abilene; and three great- grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday evening, April 1, 2002, at the funeral home, 542 Hickory.
