Ephraim served with the 4th Delaware Regiment, Company G during the Civil War.

He was an 18-year-old farmer when he enlisted at Leipsic, DE, with Capt. McClary on Aug. 11, 1862.

He was sick at the White Hall U.S. Army General Hospital, Bristol, PA, from Aug.-Oct. 1864, when he returned to duty.

He served as a guard at Brigade HQ during the last two months of the war.
