LAKE SUMMERSET - Walter W. Hale, 87, of Lake Summerset died at 9 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, in his home. Born Sept. 28, 1915, in Lafayette County, Wis., to Mr. and Mrs. Joel and Amanda (Johnson) Hale. Lived 33 years in Lake Summerset, coming here from Apple River. Married Kathryn Long on Feb. 12, 1938, in Stockton. Walter farmed in Apple River, retiring in 1970 then owned and operated Hale's Zephry in Pecatonica until 1981. Member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Durand.
Survivors include wife, Kathryn of Lake Summerset daughter, Patricia Hale of Mankato, Minn. sons, Joel (Karen) Hale of Sleepy Hollow and James (Linda) Hale of Clear Lake, Iowa six grandchildren, Laura, Maryellen, Nicholas, Benjamin, Jessica and Kimberly two sisters, Margaret Segner and Lillian (Laverne) Long, both of Monroe, Wis. and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, two sisters, one brother and daughter, Mary Ann.
Prayers at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11, in McCorkle Funeral Home, 101 Main St., Durand, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary Catholic Church, Durand, with Msgr. Eric Barr officiating. Burial in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Durand. Visitation from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, in the funeral home with a scripture service at 4 p.m.
