Funeral services for Sheila Diane Mitchell of Eufaula were held Saturday, June 22, at 11 a.m. at Kent Funeral Home Chapel in Eufaula. The Rev. Donnie Dunn officiated and burial followed at Epworth Cemetery in Eufaula, with Kent Funeral Home in Eufaula directing. Sheila passed away suddenly, Wednesday, June 19, at Medical Center Barbour in Eufaula.
Born Nov. 19, 1946 in Eufaula, Mrs. Mitchell was the daughter of the late Bennie Martin Morris Sr. and the late Ella Mae Griffin Morris. Sheila was a lifelong resident of Eufaula. Being born deaf, Sheila was very proficient in sign language. She attended the Alabama School for the Deaf in Talladega, in 1952. After completing the school, Sheila enjoyed teaching sign language to anyone who was interested in learning as well as communicating and helping others who were deaf in the community. Sheila loved animals, cooking, collecting dolls and her family. She is preceded in death by her brother, Larry Morris, and her grandson, Matthew Mitchell.
Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Wiley Ray Mitchell of Eufaula; sons, Kevin Michael Mitchell, Sr. (Shana) of Eufaula, AL and Bill Mitchell, Sr. of Eufaula; daughter, Amy Cordell of Eufaula; brother, Bennie Morris, Jr. of Camille, Ga.; sisters, Shirley Parmer of Eufaula and Gloria Herring of Ozark; grandchildren, Kevin Mitchell, Jr., Billy Mitchell, Jr., Tabitha Valdez, Andrew Mitchell, Caine Cordell, Alex Mitchell, and Anthony Mitchell; great grandchildren, James Carter Mitchell, Lillyan Valdez and Chase Mitchell.
Asked to serve as pallbearers were Bill Mitchell, Sr., Kevin Jernigan, Brian Jernigan, Kenneth Valdez, Kevin Mitchell, Jr. and Jerry Aultman.
