She is survived by her children, John (Cathie) Sloan, Kaye (Michael) Breen, Joe Sloan, Rosellen (Bob) Buns, James Sloan and Maj. Jeff (Kristel) Sloan,, her grandchildren, Nichole (Anthony) Curl, Jennifer (Michael) Walsh, Trey (Michele) Burke, Brent Sloan,Amber Sloan, John and Katlin Buns, and Nicholas Sloan, step-grandchildren, Kate (Peter) Grevelding, Rick Breen, and Kathryn, great-grandchildren and a step-great-grandchild.
Mrs. Sloan was valedictorian of Rantoul High School and graduated with honors from the University of Illinois in 1940, where she was a member of the 4-H House.
She taught in Nauvoo. She and her husband had lived in San Antonio, Fort Leavenworth, Kan.sas, Fort Benning, Georgia, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Augsburg, Germany, Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania and the Washington, D.C., area.
She held many leadership roles in Women's clubs, the PTA, garden clubs, Altar and Rosary Society and Cub and Boy and Girl Scouts.
She volunteered for many civic and community organizations and was recognized for he contributions to many civic organizations.
