Ludwig saw 28 days actual service in CAPT Peter Bainbridge's Company of the Maryland militia during the French and Indian Wars. He left York County shortly after marriage, moving south to Maryland, and eventually settling in Harbaugh Valley on a farm south of Zollinger, later Sabillasville.

Children: Christian Harbaugh, married Maria Elizabeth Williar; Mary Elizabeth Harbaugh, married John Rice and removed to Jessamine county, Ky.; Anna Mary Harbaugh, married Michael Flickinger; Jacob Harbaugh, married first Rebecca Casbear, second Margaret Winters; Margaret Anna Harbaugh, married Andrew Williar; Henry Harbaugh removed to Jessamine county, Ky; Peter Harbaugh; Yost Harbaugh, married Anna Elizabeth Gump; Christiana Harbaugh, married William Sweany and removed to Ohio.
