Melba Pauline Dowdy, 79, died on Wednesday, October 15, 2008, at the Graceland Nursing Home in Pontotoc. She was a factory worker for many years before retiring. She enjoyed being outdoors, working in her yard and garden, and playing with her dog, Dixie.

Services were at the Tutor Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Pontotoc with Frankie Wilder officiating. Burial followed in the Shady Grove Cemetery.

Survivors include two sons, Lannie Dowdy and Danny Dowdy of Pontotoc; her grandchildren, Jay and Nicole Dowdy, Brian Dowdy, Kyle Dowdy and Chris Conaway, all of Pontotoc, Amanda and David McGloflin, and Angie and J.J. Butler, all of Troy, and Rhonda and Chad Payne of Ecru; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jimmy and Loyce Wilder of Ecru, and Dewitt and Janie Wilder of New Albany; two sisters, Francis Armstrong of New Albany, and Myzette and Harold Roberts of Tupelo.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Winford Dowdy; her parents, John and Estell Wilder; and a sister, Doris Newsom.

Pallbearers were David McGloflin, Tim Wilder, Brian Adkins, Devin Forman, Nathan Dowdy and Dylan Conaway.

Honorary pallbearers were Brian Dowdy, Kyle Dowdy, Jay Dowdy, Chris Conaway, Nicholas Walker, Dustin Cox, Brady Dowdy and Landon Butler.
