Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 24, 2013 at Petra Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sauk Rapids for Karen A. Hanson, age 66, of Rice who passed away Wednesday at her home. Rev. Stephen Daley will officiate and burial will be at Benton County Cemetery, Sauk Rapids.
Karen was born Oct. 13, 1946 in Mankato to Walter & Ernastine (Merkel) Kokesch. She married Donald Hanson on Oct. 19, 1969 in Willmar. They have lived in the St. Cloud area since 1968. Karen worked for Northwestern Bell and AT&T as an operator and also in sales and human resources. She was a member of Petra Evangelical Lutheran Church, Visual Arts MN, and a lifelong member of Laureate Omicron Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. Karen was on the planning committee for La Table MS fundraiser for many years. She enjoyed shopping, gardening, and painting. Karen was a caring, loving person who was active in her community and also enjoyed spending time on the pontoon with her family.
Survivors include her husband, Donald of Rice; sons and daughter, Jeffrey Hanson (Sonja Hanson-Rosenberg) of St. Paul, Christina (Nathan) Kulberg of Rice, and Ryan Hanson of St. Cloud; mother, Ernastine Kokesch of Willmar; brother, Paul Kokesch of Danube; and grandchildren, Alexander, Nikolas, Morgan, Casey, Ashcer, and Zakary. Karen was preceded in death by her father, Walter Kokesch; and sister, Mary Wiese.
