EARLY PIONEER LAID TO REST
Mrs. Meri Bedlan, maiden name Vrba, was born in Srbice, Czechoslovakia, February 22, 1856. She died at the home of her youngest son Felix, Tuesday, May 20,1947 at the age of 91 years, 2 months and 28 days.
She came to this country May 20, 1876, to the home of her brother John Vrba. Later she married Martin Bedlan. They settled in a sod house which they built on a farm southeast of Friend.
They were among the first pioneers who worked their land with oxen. She lived on the same farm seventy-one years.
Her husband preceded her in death in September, 1927. Four children also preceded her. She leaves to mourn her death three sons, Jacob of Roy, Mont., James and Felix of Friend, three daughters, Mrs. Emma Wasmier and Mrs. Barbara Kalina, both of Crete, and Mrs. Rose Orash of Friend, also eight grandchildren and four great-grandhildren, two nieces, Mrs. Fannie Prokop of Milligan, and Mrs. Pauline Janda of Otis, Col., also many other relatives and friends.
She was a kind and loving mother and grandmother, always willing to lend a helping hand.
Burial was in the North cemetery, beneath a beautiful blanket of floral offerings.
