Samuel C. Carpenter Jr., age 92, was a son of Samuel Carpenter and Kate Seagle Carpenter of Lincolnton. He was preceded in death by his sisters Claudia Carpenter Kilpatrick of Elizabethtown and Minta Carpenter Moore of Jacksonville, Florida.
Lt. Col (Ret) Carpenter was a WWII veteran. In 1944 Lt. Carpenter led his platoon onto Omaha Beach in Normandy France during the Allied D-Day Invasion and campaigned throughout France and Germany until the end of the war. He continued his Armed Service career with a final assignment at the Pentagon before retiring.
Interment in Daniels Lutheran Church where his father was caretaker and they lived during his early childhood in the 1920's.
