Karen attended San Jose State University graduating in 1982 with her Bachelors of Arts in Environmental Studies. It was during a Chemistry class in 1978 that she met Patrick Holt; the two would later skip class to play Frisbee, the relationship was sealed. Karen and Patrick were married on December 18, 1982 in San Jose. Patrick and Karen would live in Fort Brag where Patrick had established a home for them. Fort Bragg is where they would raise their two children and would call home for the next 13 years. At age 29 Karen was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma cancer, undergoing extensive chemo treatments but beating the disease. Karen decided then that she wanted to devout her life to helping others with illnesses and/or ailments, so off to college she went again. In 1994 she graduated from Fresno State University with her Bachelors of Science in Physical Therapy. Karen's passion for serving grew and she founded Valley Springs Physical Therapy which she owned and operated for years. Karen's desire to nurture others was only surpassed by the love she had for her family. She enjoyed riding her beloved miniature horses on the cart trails with her daughter, Kymberly.
