"Rev. Michael Kenneth Carney, 60, pastor of St. Peter the Apostle Church, Oakland for 17 years until last June, died last night in Garrett County Memorial hospital there.

He had been visiting in Oakland for two days prior to his death.

Father Carney was named pastor of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Baltimore last June.

He served at only one other church after being ordained in 1932. His first position was assistant pastor of St. John the Evangelist Church in Baltimore, and he served there until 1948 when transferred to Oakland as pastor.

Father Carney was the son of the late Michael A. and Anna M. (O'Connor) Carney, and was born June 1, 1905 in Piedmont.

He received his elementary education at St. Peter's School in Westernport and attended St. Charles College, Catonsville, before completing his studies for the priesthood at North American College in Rome.

Father Carney was ordained to the priesthood in December 1932.

Friends will be received at the Minnich Funeral Home in Oakland tomorrow and Sunday until 1 p.m., when the body will be taken to St. Peter's Church there to remain until a Solemn Requiem Mass is celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m.

Two classmates of Father Carney will be officers of the Mass. Rev. Charles W. Bogan, pastor of St. Mary's Church, Cumberland will be celebrant; and Rev. Francis Montgomery, pastor of St. Michael's Church, Frostburg, will be deacon. Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Westernport.

A Solemn Pontifical Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Ambrose Church, Baltimore, with Lawrence Cardinal Sheehan, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Baltimore, as celebrant.

Friends will also be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Fredlock Funeral Home, Piedmont.

The Rosary will be recited tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. in the Minnich Funeral Home, Oakland, and 8:30 p.m. Sunday and Monday in St. Peter's Church, Oakland."
