T.S. Chalmers, Business Man, Veteran, Dies.
Thomas Stuart Chalmers, war hero and well known Chicago manufacturer, died shortly after noon yesterday at his bachelor apartment at 220 East Walton Place.Death was caused by anemia.
Mr. Chalmers was 41 years old. He was president of the Chalmers & Williams company, manufacturers of mining machinery.
At the outbreak of the war Mr. Chalmers enlisted and was sent to the officers’ training camp at Fort Sheridan. He won captain’s bars. For some time he served with the ordnance department at Washington and later was sent overseas. In France he was made a major and assigned to the engineers.
Mr. Chalmers, who was well known in social circles, was educated at St. Paul’s school and Cornell University. His father, William J. Chalmers is a well known financier. Mrs. Chalmers mother of the deceased, is a daughter of the famous Allan Pinkerton of the federal secret service of the civil war and founder of Pinkerton’s Detective agency. William A. Pinkerton is her brother.
Besides his parents, Mr. Chalmers is survived by one sister, Mrs. Norman Williams.
