Oscar M. Kennedy was born August 28, 1897 in Mulhall, Oklahoma to Edna and Otto Kennedy and passed away September 20, 1993 in the Roger Mills Memorial Hospital at the age of 96 years and 22 days.
Oscar was raised near the mouth of the Little Robe Creek and attended Bellview School where he graduated from the 8th grade. As a young boy he helped his father round up and drive cattle from south Texas to northern Kansas along the Chisholm Trail. On December 26, 1924 he married Maud Lee Pratt in Arnett, OK and they lived in Higgins, TX before moving to the Crawford area where he remained for the past 50 years and carried out his love of the cattle business by ranching. Oscar was very knowledgable in American Indian and Western history and spent many hours searching for arrowheads and artifacts, many of which he donated to several museums. Oscar enjoyed kids, gardening, animals and life in general. He was probably best known by his friends for his favorite sayings," I did outlive the whole shootin' match" and "How sweet it is."
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two daughters, Susie Lugo, Billie Winder, one son Oscar Marion, one sister Lucille and three brothers Logan, Gratt, and Bill.
Services were at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 23, 1993 at the Bellview Cemetery, under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral service.
Survivors include 2 grandchildren, Susan Hurt, Arlington, TX; Robert Hammond, Arlington, TX; 3 great grandchildren, Eric, Clint and Spencer; 2 step daughters, Viola Stout, Higgins, TX; Opal Adams, Ridgecrest, CA; and a host of other relatives and friends.
