Odell Walker was born June 8, 1927, in Palestine, Texas to the union of Jack Walker, and Maybel Demar Walker. He departed this earthly life on August 24, 2002.
Visitation will be held from 1-7 p.m., Friday, August 30, 2002, followed by a wake from 7-8 p.m. at Wynn Funeral Home, 602- 32nd Street. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2002, at Mount Moriah Baptist Church, 2728 Avenue K, Galveston, Texas with the
Rev. Dexter Henderson, Officiating.
Burial will follow at Mainland Memorial Cemetery, Hitchcock, Texas.
Odell attended school in Palestine, Texas. He moved to Galveston at an early age and worked as a Merchant Seaman. After he stopped sailing, he worked at Schwartz's Clothing Store for 20 years. He united with the Mount Moriah Baptist Church. Odell was co-owner of *Mona Lisa.' He was friendly to all he met and always joking and smiling.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Walker
and Maybel Demar Walker; sisters, Lillie Chatman, Doris Rice; and brothers, Rufus Walker and Bratt Demar.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife, Mona Lisa Walker of Galveston, Texas; son, Keith Walker; daughters; Monica and Cynthia all of Los Angeles, California; stepson, Derrick Handy of Galveston; sisters, Emma Lee Banks, Alice Dozier of Houston, Texas, Francis (Calvin) Morgan, and Mary Jolivet of Galveston; aunts, Georgeanna Marshall of Palestine, Texas; Ella Walker of La Marque, Texas; god-son, Donald Randolph; devoted cousin, H.L. (Ethel Lee) Walker of La Marque; numerous nieces and nephews; five sisters-in-law; close friends, Elmo Jiles, Dorothy Wiley, Edward Alfred, Spergon Wynn, Toby James, Cassie Howard, and Gloria Crookshank.
