Loren Doyle Stoneman, 71, of Orange City, formerly of St. Joseph, Missouri, died Thursday, November 25, at Orange City Municipal Hospital after a long battle against cancer.

Memorial services were at 10 a.m, Tuesday at Family Worship Center, Assembly of God in St. Joseph. A prayer service was at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City with the Rev. Jeffrey Keady officiating. Burial was in West Lawn Cemetery.

Stoneman was born May 13, 1933, in rural Truro, the son of William Arthur and Lillian Henrietta (Attig) Stoneman. He was raised at Truro, where he graduated from high school in 1952.

He then served in the United States Army for two years, stationed at Fort Leonardwood, Missouri, and at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

He received a degree in education from the Northwest Missouri State University. He also attended the George Peabody College in Tennessee, the Emporia State University in Kansas and the Open Bible College in Des Monies, where he studied the political, social and library sciences.

He was a school teacher for many years in rural Iowa and Missouri, including Waukee and Lineville, Iowa, and Ridgeway and Jamesport, Missouri. He also served as a librarian in Iowa for the city of Nevada and the community college in Muscatine.

In addition, he worked in a restaurant, a store and an office, was a custodian at the St. Joseph Christian School, and a greeter at the WalMart in St. Joseph, Missouri, from 1990 through May of 2004.

On December 20, 1975, he married Evelyn Marie Brown at Oak Grove, Chapel in St. Joseph. They moved to Orange City in August of this year.

He was a very patient and caring husband and dad and a hard worker. He enjoyed attending church, corresponding with many acquaintances, reading, writing, drawing, memorizing statistics, and antique cars.

He was a member of the Family Worship Center Assembly of God
in St. Joseph. He was a faithful prayer warrior and ministered to many people.

Survivors include his wife, of Orange City; and his daughter, Marilyn Lorrinda Stoneman of St. Joseph.

He was preceded in death by infant twin brothers.
