Mrs. Ophelia Greene

Aberdeenians were deeply grieved and inexpressibly distressed by the death of of Mrs. "Phe" Greene at her residence on Wednesday night after a long and patiently endured illness.
She was one of the best and sweetest of women; a ministering angel to the needy, a comforter to the heavy laden and distressed, though no woman ever carried a heavier load of earth's sorrows upon her own weary shoulders, a counselor and advisor who absolutely ignored self in considering the affairs of confiding friends, and one whose cheerful greeting masked the griefs she would not impose upon others, and for which her proud spirit disdained to ask tribute of sympathy.
We knew her first as Miss "Phe" Walton", daughter of the lamented J.N. Walton, a pioneer who died possessed of more Indian lore and
incidents relating to the tribes occupying this region than all
others combined. Wedded to our beloved citizen Dr. J.M. Greene, her married life was one long honeymoon until her four sons and devoted daughter had attained maturity, and then envious death invaded her erst happy home; Dan and Jim, two noble specimens of manhood, were called hence and as though there were no other field for invasion, there came the demand for the third, the peerless grand, talented, skilled surgeon of world renown, Dr. Walton
Greene. That was enough to crush the tender heart of any mother and probably crushed hers who knows?
God in His mercy spared for a time her noble consort, but a few short months ago he laid His burden down and those who loved her
find consolation in the belief that death for once was not unkind when it bid her join her husband and three noble sons.

Aberdeen Examiner, reprinted in the Okolona Messenger, August 20, 1914.
