John served as a Private on C-46A (#41-12373), 465th Base Unit, McClellan Army Airfield, Sacramento, California, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Baltimore, Maryland prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on April 22, 1942 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was noted as being employed as a Shipping and receiving clerk and also as Single, without dependents.

John died in the "Line Of Duty" of a non-battle related incident during the war.

He was one of eight airmen killed in a crash of the transport at Esparto, in Yolo County, California.
