LAVALE — Brenda Johnston, 66, of LaVale, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012 after losing a long battle with liver and kidney disease. Mrs. Johnston was surrounded by family at the time of her passing.

Brenda was born on Aug. 19, 1946 in Baltimore. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Art and Mary Himmelberger; aunt, Anna Hannahoe; uncle, John Hannhoe; mother-in-law, Beatrice Barnes; sister-in-law, Betty Atkinson; brother-in-law, Ronald Carr Sr.; and nephew, Rick Tull.

Brenda is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Woodrow Johnston. Brenda also left behind two daughters, Belinda Lee and husband James Lee Jr., who passed away July of this year, and Wendy Johnston; and one brother, Dennis Hannahoe of Baltimore. Brenda was blessed with several grandchildren, Rhonda Walker and husband Michael, Scott Harryman and fiancée Christina Quick, Laura Lee, Heather Schultz and boyfriend Justin Sweitzer, Emily Schultz, Rachel Schultz, Edward Paul Schultz, and Branden Schultz. Brenda cared for her great-grandson, Jordan Johnston, who resided with Brenda and her husband, Woodrow. Brenda was close to her two sisters-in-law, Diane Eaton and Evelyn Carr. Brenda is also mourned by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mrs. Johnston attended First Free Methodist Church, Keswich Road, Baltimore. Brenda and her husband Woodrow lived in Baltimore for several years, before moving to LaVale, after Woodrow's retirement from Pepsi. Brenda was a woman that lived life to its fullest. Brenda will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, (www.scarpellifh.com) on Friday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Darrold Phillips officiating.

Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.

The family wishes to thank everyone that have supported and prayed for them over the last couple of months during this emotional time.

Pallbearers will be Ken Harryman, Justin Sweitzer, and Edy Harvey. Honorary pallbearers will be Donnie Hott, Jordan Johnston and Trevor Brown.
