William arrived Springfield 1662, resided in Springfield 14 years until he was killed by the Indians 1676

William Hunter was granted by the selectmen of Springfield on Jan 30, 1662 an "allotment of 6 acres on ye south side of the great hills", now in West Springfield, and was "admitted inhabitant" on Feb 23 1662. On the later date the selectmen allotted to him a sitting "In ye 10th Seate" in the Meeting house. On Feb 10, 1667-8 he was granted 30 acres of land near Stony river towards Windsor", this land being now within the limits of Suffield, CT. On Feb 7 1669-1770 he was elected fence viewer for "chickuppy playne" this being the term given to the land lying on the west side of the Connecticut River opposite the mouth of the Chicopee River.
His land in West Springfield extended from the Connecticut River to and partley up the hill west of the bottom lands. The Springfield records state that "William Hunter was slaine by the Indians Jul 4 1676--just one hundred years before the Declaration of Independence. His widow married at Springfield 7 Feb 1677-8 David Froe of Suffield, whom she survived, and died at Suffield, Dec 19 1725. In her last year she was supported, partly at least by her grandsons the Halladays & Kents.
