Jazz Trumpeter. He was born in Binghamton (New York) and died in Danbury (Connecticut). He was the last surviving member of Benny Goodman's band from Goodman's historic Carnegie Hall concert of 1938. The trumpet section, composed of Griffin, Harry James and Ziggy Elman, was the talk of the jazz world. Duke Ellington was quoted as saying that it was "the greatest trumpet section that ever was." Glenn Miller called it "the marvel of the age." He was married for a time to singer Helen O'Brien.
